William Hall

November 26, 1926 ~ April 29, 2021 (age 94)

William (“Bill”) Hall died peacefully at home on April 29, 2021, at the age of 94 after a long struggle with dementia.   He will always be remembered as a man of strong character and for his jolly laugh and witty sense of humor.  Everyone he knew will recall the sheer pleasure of his company and how he made them feel.   What you saw was what you got with him, and what you saw was a truly delightful, easy-going, fun-loving human being.

Bill was born on November 26, 1926, in Little Hulton, UK to the late Fannie and Norman Hall.  He was the middle child and had two sisters, Phyllis and Alice.  As a young man, he learned to work hard and ran the family business, an auto repair shop, and a taxi service.   He became smitten with a young girl, Dorothy Baxter, who caught his eye when she would get off at the bus stop near his shop.   Bill and Dorothy were married in 1955.  Their oldest son Clifford was born in England and in 1958 they made the decision to immigrate to the United States, eventually settling in Springfield, Delaware County.  They had three more children, David, Carolyn, and Heather, and moved to Marple Newtown.  They became United States citizens in 1971.  After retirement, they lived in Chadds Ford, PA.

Bill worked for Philpenn in Bryn Mawr and eventually opened his own auto repair shop, Hall’s Imported Auto Repair off of MacDade Blvd in Holmes, PA where he continued his passion for repairing foreign cars (his specialty was Jaguars).  Bill retired in his mid-seventies; however, he could often be found working under his car in his home garage until he was well into his 80s.  Bill was a member of The Church of the Redeemer in Springfield for over 50 years.  He served on the vestry and was an usher and enjoyed it immensely.  He loved his family and cherished his wife Dorothy and their beloved rescue dog, Molly.  Bill’s favorite memories were spending time with his family and dancing with Dorothy.

The family would like to thank Dr. Manos, Dominika, Sanova, Noel, Terry and Michele of Compassionate Care Hospice in Media and Gladys Rodriguez for the wonderful care they gave to Bill.

Bill is preceded in death by parents, Fannie and Norman Hall, sisters Phyllis and Alice, and his great-grandson, Drew Anderson.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Dorothy Hall of Chadds Ford, PA; his children Clifford Hall (Dawn) of Pedricktown, NJ, David Hall of Boothywn, Carolyn DiPlacido (John) of West Chester, PA and Heather DeLong of Chadds Ford, PA.  Grandchildren Jenelle Hall, Zacharie Hall, Brittany Anderson (Jody), Alex Hall, Nicholas DiPlacido (Nicole), Vincent DiPlacido, Michael DiPlacido, Francesca DiPlacido, Hayley DeLong, Brooke DeLong, and Will DeLong.  Great-grandchildren Ameer, Zachary, Sirena-Alexis, and Paige.

The service and interment are private.  The service will be live streamed at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 8, 2021, at 11:00 AM at The Church of the Redeemer in Springfield.  The service will be recorded and available to be viewed for a short period of time afterward for those who are unable to watch live.
