Obituary

CARMICHAEL

                 ROBERT LAURENCE    JUNE 30, 1933-SEPTEMBER 14, 2020

Robert was born in Philadelphia to Albert and Elizabeth Carmichael. He grew up in South Philly and graduated from John Bartram High School. Born during the Great Depression, he learned the value of hard work at a young age. He worked to help support his family in positions such as a soda jerk at Willie Spinelli's. In high school, he began working at Philadelphia Electric Company. Bob was drafted into the United States Army and served on active duty from the age of 20 to 22. He was proud to have served and would proudly fly our nation's flag on holidays. After his honorable discharge, he returned to PECO as a full time employee. He earned degrees at night from the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School and Widener University. Bob was a well- known and well- liked manager of customer accounting and eventually retired after a 44 year career with the company.

Busy as he was, Bob always found time to enjoy his family even as it grew to include 9 grandchildren. He forged a special bond with each of them as he and his wife Nancy provided regular babysitting services for them. He also enjoyed golfing, watching sports, reading the newspaper, many church activities and annual summer vacations in Wildwood and Sea Isle City. Friends and family will remember him for his sense of humor, friendliness, kindness, generosity, integrity and one-liners.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Nancy, his sister Jane, his three children, Jill, Julie and Adam and their spouses, and nine grandchildren. His is preceded in death by his sister Ruth and brother Alan.
