Helen O’Mara (nee Leahy), 92, of Broomall, PA, passed away on January 3, 2021, at Bryn Mawr Hospital after a brief illness.

Born on May 19, 1928, in Mahanoy City, PA, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Ryan) Leahy and was the youngest of four children.  Helen grew up in Philadelphia and was a 1946 graduate of West Catholic Girls High School.

In 1951, Helen married her soulmate and love of her life, William G., and they later moved to Broomall, PA to raise their two sons, William J. (d. 8/26/2008) and Joseph. Helen and William shared 42 years of marriage, until his untimely death in 1993.

Helen dedicated her life to her family and she loved tirelessly.  She took great pride in caring for her son, Joseph, unassisted.  The two shared a special bond that enriched both their lives and everyone who knew them.  Helen was an active member of St. Pius X Church and was well-known throughout her community.  She was also a member of the Philadelphia Dog Training Club and enjoyed showing her Shetland Sheepdogs in obedience competitions.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William G., son, William J., brothers, Vincent and Joseph, and sister, Theresa.  Helen was followed in death by her son, Joseph O'Mara.

Helen is survived by her granddaughter, Katie O’Mara (John), and nephew Kevin Leahy (Jamie); along with several nieces, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
