Arthur C. Ryan

September 22, 1966 ~ December 31, 2020 (age 54)

Obituary

Arthur Christopher Ryan passed away on December 31, 2020, surrounded by loved ones to join his predeceased parents John and Modeste Ryan and oldest brother Michael J. Ryan.  Arthur is survived by his long time partner J. Brian Kerr, of Wilmington Delaware, who cared for him so patiently and lovingly until his last breath.  Arthur is also survived by his siblings  Betty (Joe) O’Donnell,  Joseph Ryan, Dr. John (Renee) Ryan and Donna (Paul) Davis as well as a plethora of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who were considered family (David Bjorkgren #7).

Arthur was born September 22, 1966, in Lawrence, Massachusetts.  The Ryan family moved from New England to the suburbs of Philadelphia in 1975 where he attended St. Charles Borromeo Grade school in Drexel Hill, later graduated from Monsignor Bonner High School and Marple Technical School in Broomall. Arthur spent his summers at Upper Darby Summer Stage where he acted and directed in many shows.

Arthur went to work as an actor after high school in Busch Gardens Williamsburg, VA and performed locally in the Philadelphia Region for several years.  He graced the stage at the Walnut Street Theatre, Prince Music Theatre and the Media Theatre in many productions.  Arthur wrote for the News of Delaware County as a film critic for many years and as a manager at Movies Unlimited in both Drexel Hill and Lawrence Park. Finally, Arthur worked as a storyteller/ first person interpreter and program manager for the nonprofit Historic Philadelphia, Inc.

Arthur is remembered by the love, joy, music, and laughter that he brought to this earth in his storytelling abilities and talent in theatre.  He played his part as our own Kris Kringle at Macy’s in Philadelphia for several years where he brought magic to life for thousands of children. Everything Arthur did was done with love--to know him was to love him and to feel loved in return.  He put thought into everything he did including selecting the absolutely perfect gift for you.  There is no doubt that if Arthur touched your life, this news saddens you as the loss of his physical presence will be felt deeply.  Please share the stories, the music, and the message of love and kindness that Arthur left on this earth with those near and far to keep his magic alive.
