Obituary for Samuel J. Coco

Samuel (Sam) Coco 95 of Newtown Square, PA passed away on January 23, 2018. He was the Beloved husband of the late Freda (nee Leon), Devoted father of Kathryn Coco and Brian Coco. Grandfather of Nicole Coco. Sam was born September 25, 1922 in Stroudsburg, PA.

He was the son of the late Carmella and Concetta (Scagliota) Coco who emigrated from Sicily, Italy and become prominent business owners of a produce market in Tannersville soon thereafter. He was preceded in death by five siblings: Frank Coco, Anthony Coco, Austin (Chic) Coco, Mary Vineyard and Caroline Kulak. He and his brothers have been honored many times as being the only family in Monroe County to have had all male siblings enlist in the Armed Forces.

Sam had a successful career as a manager with the Prudential Insurance Company and retired after 30 years of service, having obtained many top sales awards.

As a member of Historical Car Club of PA and Roadrunners he toured with his Model A Ford. which he restored completely himself.

Sam’s love of history and his commitment to helping others led him to be involved in many organizations including: Newtown Square Railroad Museum Association (freight station), Veterans Museum of Newtown Square, Delaware County Veterans Memorial Association, Newtown Square Historical Society, Rotary Club of Newtown Square.

Sam was a proud veteran of WWII and his continued service to veterans speaks volumes about his patriotism and love of country. Over the course of service, he was awarded many medals and on November 17, 2016 he was awarded the Freedom Medal by Delaware County Veterans Memorial Association.

Sam met his wife Freda in England and it was love at first sight. They had a wonderful 54 years of marriage.

Sam was an amazing man who was kind to everyone and always put a smile on people’s faces. His heart was pure and he made an impact on everyone he met. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed sharing his life experiences. He will be sorely missed but will live on forever in our hearts.
