Obituary for Edith Ridgely Carpenter

She was born in Decatur, GA in 1919. She was a graduate of Decatur Girls High School
During World War II, Edith married Richard Waterman Carpenter in 1943 in Deming, New Mexico. Following the war and after several moves across the country, they established their long-time residency on Echo Valley Lane in Newtown Square for over 50 years. She was an avid nature lover, caring for her many gardens, pets and wildlife . Mrs Carpenter was very active in her local community holding such offices as President of the Newtown Square Historical Society and also a member for 25 years and was a Financial Director and member of Newtown Square Presbyterian Church. She was also instrumental in starting Newtown Square Colonial Days Celebration and in the reconstruction of the Papermill House. Mrs Carpenter was also a member of the Republican Women's Club,the Newtown Square Newcomer's Club and various bridge card playing clubs. Also known as a reading enthusiast, Mrs Carpenter enjoyed volunteering at the Newtown Square Public Library. Beloved wife the late Richard Waterman Carpenter. Devoted mother of David D. (Cindy) and Alice Horan (Ted). Also survived by her grandchildren Jane, Sean and Erin Carpenter and Meg and Michael Horan. and many nieces and nephews. FUNERAL SERVICE MONDAY AT 11:00 AM IN THE FRANK C. VIDEON FUNERAL HOME SPROUL AND LAWRENCE ROADS BROOMALL WHERE RELATIVES AND FRIEND MAY CALL AFTER 9:30 AM.
