Clinton J. Cunningham
Sergeant Clinton J. Cunningham died unexpectedly on March 19, 2018 at the age of 37 from a cerebral hemorrhage. Clinton is survived by , his beloved wife Kelly, four children: Kerrilynn; Devon; Clinton ”C.J;” and Sean, his parents, Thomas and Suzanne Cunningham, brothers Thomas and Jeffrey, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Clinton was born and raised in Southwest Philadelphia where he attended St. Clement Grade School and West Catholic High School. He was an avid basketball and baseball player at Finnegan Playground, the local recreation center in Southwest Philadelphia. Clinton earned his B.A at Chestnut Hill College and a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice at St. Joseph’s University. Clinton is a resident of Newtown Square, where he and his family are active members of St. Anastasia Parish.
Clinton was a highly decorated member of the police force. He served nine years with the Philadelphia Police Department and received Policeman of the Year for the 1st District in South Philadelphia where his grandfather was a proud member. In 2013 he joined the Newtown Township Police Department where he earned the rank of sergeant. Just last week, Clinton was voted by his colleagues as Newtown Township's 2018 Walt Wolff Award recipient for Officer of the Year.
Clinton dedicated his life to serving the community and residents of Philadelphia and Newtown Township. He will be deeply missed and mourned by his family and the many lives he touched.
A viewing will be held from 9:45 a.m. until noon on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at St. Anastasia Church, 3301 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073. The Funeral Mass will be at noon at St. Anastasia Parish that same day with a committal following at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family at:
